Together with children from the fourth grade of KGS Würm, the road safety advisors and the traffic service of the Heinsberg district police authority were on duty around Würm elementary school yesterday. The aim of the campaign was to draw attention to the dangers for children in road traffic, as people often drive too fast even right next to kindergartens and schools.
The officers checked both speed and behavior at the wheel. They were assisted by the primary school pupils: For considerate driving, the children gave the drivers a thank-you note with a thumbs-up. If they broke the traffic rules, the children gave the motorists a thoughtful note and a lemon. This was the case yesterday for speeding instead of the permitted 30 km/h, as well as for drivers using their cell phones at the wheel.
The aim of the Heinsberg police is to raise awareness of safe behavior in road traffic, especially around schools and kindergartens, with road safety campaigns like this.
The operation was part of the NRW initiative - #sicherimStraßenverkehr. The primary goals of this road safety network are to reduce road accidents and raise awareness of the dangers of road traffic.
